Spotswood …

… was where my great grandfather worked. I remember being told that he worked in the ammonia works and it wasn’t good for his lungs so he went across the road and worked at the bottle works. I am not sure how much better that would have been in the early 1900’s.

I was wandering home via the back streets of Spotswood and stopped as I remembered hearing the sound that the bottles made as they were moving along in the factory.

It was summer, it was hot and through the windows I saw the molten glass being shot down into moulds. I couldn’t take my eyes off the gaps in the windows.
